Classic Italian Tomato Pasta Sauce

Ingredients

  • 5 – 6 garlic cloves, minced

  • 400g tin of chopped tomatoes

  • 3 tablespoons to tomato puree

  • 150ml water

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 heaped teaspoon if dried mixed Italian herbs

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

METHOD

  • In a large saucepan heat the oil and sauté the garlic until soft, around 2 minutes
  • Add the tin of tomatoes, the puree, onion powder, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt and pepper and stir the ingredients, add the water and stir until the water is combined
  • Leave the mixture to simmer (no lid) for around 90 minutes, stirring occasionally
  • Serve with pasta
  • Tip – you can add cooked meat or prawns in the last few minutes to heat through
